The new natural-origin formula comes in 40 gorgeous shades along with refillable cases.

Almost two decades ago, Christian Dior introduced the upside-down lipstick that played the roles of both fashion accessory and beauty must-have. The original tube even launched other iconic iterations, from Lip Maximizers to glowy versions.

“Dior Addict was supposed to be the younger lipstick for Dior,” Peter Philips, the creative and image director for Dior Makeup, says. “The upside-down aspect felt a little rebellious beauty and gave it a little twist. But we found out that it was not just the younger customer who was attracted to Dior Addict. All women loved the easiness and effortlessness of the lipstick, but there was still a beautiful shine to it.”

Now, Philips is bringing the iconic Addict Lipstick back to the top with a modern upgrade—both inside and out.

The new formula now uses 90 percent natural-origin ingredients, with stars like jasmine and plum oil for a hydrating shine. “People still like to express themselves through color and texture, so I didn’t want to make any sacrifices on the formula,” Philips says. “It’s a one-stroke application and is very lightweight on the lips.”

Philips also created 40 new shades, from red and pink hues to a slew of rosewoods. When it comes to the latter color range, Philips says rosewoods are a fresh approach to nudes. “Rosewood is the ideal lip color,” he says. It feels like a rose petal, but not bright, and it defines your lip shade without looking like lipstick.

The most notable new shade is Dior 8, a brick red with warm undertones, which is a complement to the fashion house’s iconic Dior 999.

“Red is a classic and pops, but if you don’t like intense colors, Dior 8 feels a bit more natural, because the brick blends into your natural tones,” he explains. “It’s a bit more effortless and contemporary than Dior 999.” The number holds significant meaning to the fashion house, as eight is Dior’s lucky number. For even more Dior 8, you can get the shade in Dior Addict Lip Glow too.

For the special revamp, Dior created four limited-edition cases that mimic spring fashion motifs: They include denim, soft pink quilt, and liquid silver designs, in addition to a classic shiny black.

“The upside-down packaging became unique in lipstick land, and so many customers loved the cases, so we thought to integrate a refillable concept,” Philips says. “It was the natural next step. By making the lipstick more like an accessory, it becomes more desirable and customers will want to refill them.”
