There's no denying that our ears prick up if they hear about ways to find the perfect makeup products for our eye colour—especially if it's to highlight the beautiful features we were born with. And for those with a pair of blue eyes, finding an eyeshadow to make them pop can be tricky.

Of course, when it comes to makeup, there are no hard and fast rules to what you wear or how you wear it, the world is your cosmetic oyster.

All of our blue-eyed beauties out there have likely found themselves wandering the aisles of a local beauty store, hunting for an eyeshadow colour that helps your baby blues stand out amongst the crowd. Well, fret not, because it's not as difficult as you'd imagine.

"There are some tricks you can use to make your eyes pop," Elyse Reneau, Executive Global Beauty Director at Too Faced tells marie claire Australia.

According to Reneau, there are an array of hues that compliment the bright and bold eye colour, and while some make use of the colour wheel theory, it can't hurt to test the waters of similar shades.

"To make blue eyes even more blue try using warm coppers, bronzes and even oranges, or shades of blue," she suggests.

"You can always figure out which shades are complimentary by going old school and looking at a colour wheel choosing the shade family across from your eye colour."

When it comes to shiny metals, metallics can be a go-to for blue-hued eyes, especially in the summer time. Opt for golds, bronzes and coppers as they can spark the cool tones and bring out the blue in the eye.

And just because you've been blessed with baby blues, doesn't mean you can't indulge in a smokey eye or two. If you're keen to smoke out your gaze, try using softer, more flattering alternatives like warm neutrals and coppers, like Reneau suggests.

Speaking of copper tones, why not play with the colour wheel and reach for some fiery and burnt oranges when in need of a pop of colour. And given that the hue is directly opposite blue on the notorious wheel, it'll make your eye colour pop unlike anything else.

But of course, Reneau (and we) also believe that you should feel the freedom to wear whichever colour that you want—no matter what your eye colour is.

"We believe that beauty rules are made to be broken, so if you see a colour that you love you should wear it no matter what colour your eyes are," she explains. "If it makes you feel beautiful or powerful, it’s the right colour for you."
